I have a great time cooking with my grandkids. It’s one of my favorite activities to do with them. When granddaughter, Estelle, came for a brief visit during her birthday week, I was already thinking about what we could make together and she was an excellent sous chef in my kitchen.
We made these absolutely delicious smoothies, filmed the making of them together and then consumed them post haste,. They are so easy to put together, tasty and adorably cute with their sugar rimmed glass and waffle wedge garnish, Estelle mentioned that these would make an ideal breakfast smoothie due to the waffle addition both on the glass and in the smoothie. I whole heartedly agree. She’s a creative one.
I always have frozen bananas on hand, so they’re perfect for smoothies. When any of our grandkiddos visit, they’re always game for a smoothie. It’s great to have a few really good smoothie recipes on hand in your arsenal. I have a specific smoothie loaded with greens, vegan protein and lots of other antioxidant loaded ingredients that I have every day for breakfast. You can find that recipe here.
And then I have fun smoothie recipes like this one that are perfect for parties. Send me a photo if you end up making these. I’d love to see if you come up with other creative ideas in smoothie world. So many options.
Strawberry Banana Waffle Smoothie
Serves 4 2 bananas, frozen 1 cup strawberries, stems removed 2 cups almond milk (or your milk of choice) 2 packed waffles, toasted 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, powder or paste Rimming or sanding sugar (I used pink sanding sugar), optional Place bananas, strawberries and almond milk in a blender and blend until smooth. Tear one of the waffles in a few pieces and add to blender. Blitz again until the waffle bits are evenly dispersed and fine enough to go through a straw. I love my Ninja blender for this. It’s so powerful it makes quick work of this smoothie and is available on our shop page. If you’re rimming your glasses, dip the top of the glasses in a bit of water, then press into a small plate filled with the rimming sugar. Take the remaining waffle and cut into quarters. Cut a small slit at the point of each waffle wedge ti allow it to slip over the rim of the glass Pour the smoothie into the glasses then garnish with a waffle wedge. So cute.
