![]() I’m thrilled that “mocktails” are a thing now. I’ve known for years that a drink didn’t have to have liquor or alcohol in it to be delicious, In fact, I prefer the subtle mingling of flavors, with a smidge of sweet, a bit of bitter, perhaps a hint of acid or heat. It’s the science of the blend of all facets that makes a great drink. I’m also thrilled that I can have one of these at 3:00 during a work day and know I’m good! I enjoy my 2 hour conference calls much better when I have a pretty and delicious drink to sip on during those sessions. Without further adieu I present a Pomarose Chili Spritz that has the heat of a cayenne pepper, the allure of rosewater (leave it out if you’re not a fan), the tart sweetness of pomegranate juice and refreshing effervescence of tonic water. Pomarose Chili Spritz Makes 1 Pomegranate juice (such as Pom Wonderful) Tonic Water (I like Fevertree) 1/2 to 1 teaspoon *rosewater 1 cayenne pepper (or Fresno chili) (a dusting of powdered cayenne pepper will also do) **Ice cubes (see my tip) You’ll need equal parts pomegrate juice and tonic water so I’ve left off measurements as it will depend on your glass. Chop off about 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (or red japaleno/Fresno chili) into tiny pieces. The rest can be used as a garnish. Put ice into the glass and sprinkle in chili bits. Pour over pomegranate juice to about 1/2 full then add the rosewater if you’re using. Top with tonic water in about the same amount as the juice. Plop in the whole chili for garnish. Sip and enjoy. **Cute tip. I froze ice cubes with dried rose petals in them so I could use for this drink. Not necessary, but a nice extra touch. *Rosewater is available online, and at some grocery stores. It gives a district florally note, so use sparingly, but it has a unique and lovely flavor.
