Sweet heat is one of my favorite flavor profiles and these simple syrup jalapeños certainly fit the bill. They are syrupy, sticky yet fiery, and totally addictive.
I love to keep these on hand and being that they are so incredibly easy to make, I can whip them up in a jiffy and store them in my fridge for a couple of weeks to add to so many things as I see fit.
All you have to do are slice jalapeños, make simple syrup, which is just sugar and water brought to a simmer, marry them all together in a jar, and there you have it; Simple Syrup Jalapeños!
These are almost identical to candied jalapeños, but the spiced up syrup is as good as the sweet and fiery peppers.
These are good and there are so many uses for both the syrup and the jalapeños individually, as well as together. Try these in my Lime Jalapeño Mocktail
Try the syrup drizzled over a slice of grilled or toasted poundcake with some fresh strawberries that have been mixed with the chopped syrupy jalapeños.
What about the sliced sticky jalapeños over a log of goat cheese on your next charcuterie platter?
Spicy sweet jalapeños on my next taco or burrito bowl. Yes please!
Simple Syrup Jalapeños
1 cup sugar (I use cane sugar) 1 cup water 4-5 jalapeños, slices and stem discarderd Combine sugar and water in a small to medium saucepan and bring to a simmer. Let simmer for one to two minutes. Slice the jalapeños and pack them into a heatproof jar with a tight fitting lid, like a 16 -20 ounce mason jar., Once the simple syrup has come to a simmer, pour over the jalapeños, cover and refrigerate for up to two weeks. The syrup itself is great to use in cocktails or mocktails, drizzled over grilled pound cake and the jalapeños are great on tacos, salads, or anything else where you might desire a bit of sweet heat I like to use these in my Lime Jalapeño Mocktail. Cook's Tip - If you have extra simple syrup, pour it into a jar with some vanilla for a vanilla simple syrup. You can also add a sprig of rosemary or thyme for an herb essenced simple syrup or add a few lemon peel strips. You get the idea. Incredibly versatile syrup
