My family is always hinting for me to start making these at the first breath of cooler weather. I'll make a few at a time and sit them on the coffee bar for an impromptu hot chocolate treat. They're so fun to watch dissolve into the hot milk and divulge their hidden treasure a/k/a marshmallows, crushed peppermint candies or pop rocks.
DIY gift giving at its finest and soooo fun to do with the kids, You can fill these with any type of hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, chai and the spheres can be made with white, dark or milk chocolate. Get creative. I did the simplest version and that only wet my appetite to get on the crazy hot chocolate bomb train and try a bunch more variations. Cautionary tale. If you decide to drizzle some chocolate over your finished bombs to cuten up the appearance, make sure your chocolate is cooled without being hardened. On my first attempt I artfully squirted a white chocolate drizzle atop the dark chocolate spheres and what ensued was a yummy puddle of chocolate, marshmallows and cocoa mix. I intended to give these as gift, and still do, but my husband seems to have taken quite a fancy to them and they are disappearing quickly! You’ll need: Melting Chocolate (such as Ghirardelli) in white, milk and/or dark (this link gives you all 3) Chocolate bomb molds Your selection of goodness for the center such as cocoa mix, chai mix, marshmallows, sprinkles, etc) The 60 second YouTube how to on our home page makes it simple. Give a watch and let me know if I can help…..test the end result :-) -Melt chocolate in a micrwave safe container at 30 second intervals until you can stir to a smooth consistency. -Drizzle into each side of the molds and coat evently, but thinly. Using a pastry brush helps this process. -Chill in the fridge or freezer until set (I like to chill then upside down on parchment paper so any excess will drip out, -Fill one half with your filling (hot chocolate mix) of choice then fuse together by gently heating one rim of a chocolate until the chocolate is beginning to just barely melt and you can press onto the other side. Poprocks version is Explosive :-). Give them a try. Such fun! I added an updated 28 second video of these bombs made with Peppermint Pop Rocks. Super fun variation!
THE PEPPERMINT POP ROCKS VERSION IS SUPER FUN!!
