I love to make unique pizzas, opting for goat cheese, fig and pear long before I desire a pizza with cured meats and mozzarella. This robust fall pizza has all the flavors that remind you of cooler weather and crisp evenings, including the star of the show, perfectly seasoned, terracotta hued pumpkin puree.
My everyday dough makes for a fabulous pizza dough, but make it easy on yourself. If you want to buy pre-made dough or dough in a can, please do so. Pizza should never be a chore, but solely enjoyable to your comfort level. I will tell you that the sense of accomplishment from making your own dough is next level and somehow it always seems to taste better. My family now seems quite disappointed when I don’t make dough for our pizza nights.

You’d be surprised how easily pumpkin puree can stand in for the traditional marinara and lend its own special autumnal vibe. I flavor it up with a bit of garlic powder and Aleppo chili flake. Feel free to use real garlic and regular chili flake if you want, It will be amazing either way.
Complement the pumpkin puree base with Italian chicken sausage and gorgeously green kale, some woodsy mushrooms and one of my favorite cheeses, Manchego. Manchego is a medium hard Spanish sheep’s milk cheese that I love to use. You can, of course, use mozzarella or your cheese of choice, but that ever so slight pungency of Manchego is a perfect pairing with the pumpkin. A drizzle of hot honey and you're set for pizza night.
Fall Pumpkin Pizza with Hot Honey Drizzle Serves 4 1 recipe easy pizza dough (or use store bought) Olive oil for drizzling over the dough 3/4 cup pumpkin puree. (not pumpkin pie mix) 1/2 to 1 teaspoon chili flake depending on how spicy you like it (I use Aleppo chili flake which is smoky and florally and perfect with the pumpkin) 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon course sea salt 1 Italian chicken sausage, cut into smaller bite sized pieces 1 cup mushrooms, stems removed & sliced thinly 1 cup kale from frozen, thawed and drained very well 1 cup shredded Manchego cheese (or your favorite cheese) 2 teaspoons fresh rosemary, chopped roughly Hot Honey - can be purchased or you can easily make your own as I do 3 tablespoons honey 1 teaspoon chili garlic sauce (or other hot sauce of your choice) Mix well together and drizzle over pizza. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Roll out pizza dough. I like to roll mine out on parchment paper. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and spread evenly out to the edge of the dough. Mix pumpkin puree, chili flakes, garlic powder and salt. Spread evenly over the dough. Top evenly with chicken sausage, mushrooms, kale and Manchego. Scatter rosemary over and bake at 425 for about 25 minutes. Drizzle with hot honey, slice and serve. ![]()
