I know this may seem like an odd thing for me to post, but making your own toothpaste is quite easy and this one contains all natural ingredients (which can't be said about most commercial toothpaste brands). In fact, the ingredients in this paste are beneficial to teeth and oral health in general. I make this with Bentonite Clay. This clay is made from the dried ash of volcanos. It's highly mineralized and binds to toxins to help your body eliminate them. It contains a range of nutrients and is known to have an abundance of minerals, including calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron and potassium. Bentonite clay is also now a wellness trend among people who are looking to help naturally improve their skin’s health, detoxify their bodies and improve digestion. Here we simply use it in our toothpaste and while it tends to turn the color a slight grey, you can also substitute activated charcoal for a more whitening effect. Your paste them will be more of a black color. ![]() DIY Bentonite Clay Toothpaste
Note - Use wood, glass, plastic or silicone bowls & spoons when mixing bentonite clay. Pretty much anything but metal will work. Melt or slightly soften the coconut oil. Mix in other ingredients and stir well. If you are using a semi-hard coconut oil, use a fork, if not, use a spoon. If you are using completely melted coconut oil, you will need to stir several times while the mixture cools to keep the baking soda & bentonite incorporated. Pour the mixture into a small glass jar. (Each person using should have their own jar.) Let cool completely. These will keep for a couple months.
